God’s Commandment Says, Honor Your Father and Your Mother
God’s Commandment Says, Honor Your Father and Your Mother
Honoring parents is a sacred duty, so think carefully before you utter any letter or do any act that insults your parents because the Lord commanded us saying: (Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you). (Deuteronomy 5:16).
In the Bible (Old Testament)
in the Book of Proverbs, there are several assurances about the same thing.
- Hear, ye children, the chastisement of the father, and listen, for the knowledge of understanding (Proverbs 4-1).
- Hear, my son, your father’s discipline, and do not reject your mother’s law (Proverbs 1-8)
- He who loves discipline loves knowledge, and he who hates reproof is dull (Proverbs 12-1).
In the New Testament, St. Paul the Apostle in the sixth chapter of his letter to the Ephesians confirms the obedience of children to parents when he says: (Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for that is justice…)
A – Honoring parents is an order from God in which no interpretation or interpretation is possible.
B – It is not permissible for the children to hold the parents accountable, for the account and the reward is from the Lord alone.
C – All honor or neglect that children do for their parents will apply to them in the future.
A Story
The father had a single son, who took care of him and worked hard in his upbringing. The boy grew up, got married, and the father lived with his son in the same house, as he had no other place to live.
The father grew up and his health worsened, as he had a nervous disease that led to his hands trembling and his head shaking from the severity of the disease, so he often fell food from him while he tried to put it in his mouth, and sometimes if his hands trembled a lot, the plate fell on the ground, broken.
The son and his wife agreed that the father would sit in a corner of the kitchen alone, while they and their young son were eating at the big table. The father did not object to that, but he was sad inside.
Days passed and one day while the little boy was playing, he found a piece of wood and started playing with it, trying to make something out of it, so his parents asked him what he wanted to make of it. He replied, ‘I’m trying to make a plate of it to serve to you when I grow up.
‘ When they heard what their young son had to say, the son and his wife began weeping and went towards the old father and gently took him from the corner of the kitchen, and made him sit at the same table with them to eat together.
Woe to you who insult your parents!
